Town and Community Development

Towns Alive

Used by towns and communities nationwide since the mid 90’s, Towns Alive now has a successful track record of producing results.

Being a practical programme throughout ensures that town development is an ongoing, painless and enjoyable process. No time or opportunity is provided to allow history to be rewritten or blame apportioned, this programme is about looking forward and making decisions based on fact – not emotion!

By the application of information and techniques adopted by successful commercial organisations, who also face pressures brought about by change, town communities become more focused and motivated to ‘make things happen’. (Take a look at press report under News and Articles).

Many of the changes facing towns are similar in nature to those facing businesses, e.g.:

  • new developments changing the 'playing field'

  • changing and increasing competition

  • economic pressures

  • changing and increasing legislation

  • customer expectations

  • shopping habits

  • use of leisure time

  • demographic changes

Towns Alive can be directed at particular sectors of a town’s community, e.g., businesses, or involve all sectors, be they businesses, community groups, forums, chambers, residents, etc.

Typically, and within six months, towns have gone from a 'standing start' to having Action Plans in place and being publicised.

Participants are challenged to:

  • look at the bigger picture - not just their town

  • develop ideas, prompted by the information provided

  • share ideas, information and resource

  • work alongside support agencies

  • work to deadlines and produce

  • maintain a sense of humour and perspective

  • look forward to the future - and not hanker for the past!

Towns Alive has three distinct phases:

        RESEARCH

        DEVELOPMENT

        ACTION
